Together we can

Slam Dunk Cancer

Who We Are

Together we can improve lives and find a cure

Slam Dunk Cancer is a nonprofit organization founded by former professional basketball player John McIntyre, dedicated to raising funds for cancer research, treatment, and support  especially for uninsured and underinsured patients who face the greatest barriers to care.

John’s motivation to start Slam Dunk Cancer is deeply personal. His wife, Margaret, is a cancer survivor, and both of her parents sadly lost their lives to the disease. John’s college coach, Norm Stewart, also a cancer survivor, inspired him with his own advocacy through Coaches vs. Cancer, showing how the sports community can play a powerful role in the fight.

The mission of Slam Dunk Cancer became even more personal with the passing of John’s former teammate and dear friend, Jeff Warren. Known to many as one of the kindest and most genuine human beings you could ever meet, Jeff lost his battle with cancer — but his memory fuels the organization’s commitment to ensure that no one has to fight alone.

At Slam Dunk Cancer, we believe in teamwork, resilience, and community. We channel the same passion and intensity found on the basketball court into helping patients get the support they need  no matter their circumstances.

Through fundraising events, partnerships, and grassroots efforts, we aim to make a real difference  one patient, one family, one victory at a time.

Our Approach

We Bridge the Gap in Cancer Care, One Life at a Time

Slam Dunk Cancer is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that no one has to face cancer alone—or without care. Founded on the belief that access to treatment should never depend on your insurance status, we step in where the system falls short.

At Slam Dunk Cancer, we believe in the power of community, compassion, and action. Like a team working together on the court, we rally individuals, businesses, and medical partners to fight for those most vulnerable. Our name reflects not just a love for basketball, but the energy and determination we bring to every patient we serve and every life we aim to change. Together, we’re not just battling cancer—we’re determined to slam dunk it.

Our Mission

To provide compassionate support and life-saving cancer treatment to those who are uninsured or underinsured. By dedicating 75% of our proceeds to directly fund cancer care for those in need, we aim to bridge the gap in access to essential medical services. The remaining 25% of our proceeds will be invested in cutting-edge cancer research, striving to advance the fight against cancer and bring hope to patients and their families. Together, we are committed to improving lives and finding a cure.
